Gerrity's

In 1895, William Gerrity opened a small butcher shop named Gerrity’s Market in the Bellevue section of West Scranton. In 1948, William passed it on to his three sons - Joseph, William Jr. and Thomas. Joseph Gerrity kept the business going, eventually partnering with Neal Fasula who had started with Gerrity’s in 1964 as a delivery boy.

When Mr. Gerrity retired, he sold his half to Neal and though the business is now run by the Fasula family, the one hundred year old Gerrity name has remained.

In 1980, Neal opened the first Gerrity’s Supermarket at 702 South Main Avenue in West Scranton, offering products and services found in full service supermarkets. He added a location in Kingston and one in North Scranton in 1993, expanded to South Scranton in 1994, followed by the acquisition of five additional stores in 1997.

Though Neal passed away in 1980, his wife Joyce and son Joe continued to move the business forward. In 2006, Gerrity’s relocated its Hanover Township store to a newly renovated building in the Hanover Mall, allowing for the addition of new services, including a sandwich and pizza shop, a full service florist and pharmacy. In 2021, they added a tenth store in Bethlehem, PA.

Today, the Fasula family passionately continues the business that began so long ago. Joyce Fasula, who is now better known as “Mom” remains the president and CEO with her son, Joe, assisting with the daily operation and administration of the company. Today, Gerrity’s employs more than 1300 Associates and is one of the oldest and most well-known local businesses in Lackawanna county and the Wyoming and Lehigh Valleys.
